Plan for Plans to Change

Seems like the biggest lesson I have learned over the past week is to plan for plans to change. I’ve made it to the gym only once, this past weekend I had a total of 5 hours of sleep, and I still haven’t packed for a three week trip that begins tomorrow. As they say, “any and everything that can go wrong, will.” In this case, nothing has necessarily gone wrong, instead, everything has popped up.

My plan was to pack over the weekend. Thursday night, one of the athletes from the Mississippi Senior Olympics emailed me to ensure I would be there with my camera (I am also a photographer). The Senior Olympics is one of my favorite events to photograph and I have volunteered my time and work the past two years. I felt like I could not let them down. Friday zoomed by and Saturday evening I arrived at my apartment exhausted, sun burnt, and still hadn’t packed.

I planned to pack yesterday…until one of my recent photography clients had a special request. I planned to take just a couple hours to fulfill her request but it actually ended up being a full day of work. My evening was spent updating my parents on my travel details and strategizing how I would get to the airport. Before I knew it, it was 8:00 p.m. and I still had not packed. Still sleep deprived, I decided to take a quick power nap and then pack. Evidently, my body powered ALL the way down because I didn’t wake up until this morning.

My dog had an early morning appointment at the groomers. Since my parents are nice enough to keep her while I am gone, I figured the least I could do was get her cleaned up and spiffy. As life would command, her groomer did not show up for work. I’m not surprised. This whole week has been a series of quirky misfortunes and surprises. So here it is, 7:42 a.m. and I am determined to have my clothes packed within two hours. But, I can’t help but wonder what will pop up next.
